Kintsugi Workshop: The Art of Golden Repair

Join us for a calming and creative workshop where you’ll learn the beautiful Japanese art of Kintsugi—the practice of mending broken pottery with gold. More than just a repair technique, Kintsugi is a philosophy that celebrates imperfection and the beauty of resilience.

In this hands-on session, you’ll be guided through the process of repairing a ceramic piece, embracing its cracks and flaws as part of its unique story. Do you have a cherished item that’s been broken? Bring it along—we’d love to help you give it a new life. No prior experience needed, and all materials are provided.

Expressive Painting Summer School - Justine Turnbull

Expressive Painting Summer School

Whether you work from objects, the figure, or secondary sources, this is an opportunity to explore working more loosely using oils or acrylics. I will guide you through drawing and painting exercises to help loosen you up, and we will discuss art historical techniques which may be relevant to your individual artistic style and context. You will develop a set of criteria to explore ways of representing perceived objects in a more dynamic, painterly way. The emphasis is on working with your chosen source material to create a `next level’ painting. This course may suit if you have explored some of the basics of painting such as mixing colours, blending etc, but want to find a process that best expresses your unique approach and ideas.
