BECS MACKIE
I am an artist, educator, and lifelong maker based in Martinborough, and the owner of Ventana Art Space. I have what I like to call a spicy brain—curious, ideas-led, and always chasing the next thing to make. I’ve moved freely between materials and art forms, learning each from the beginning. That constant starting again is what led me to teaching, giving me a deep understanding of how beginners think, where confidence wobbles, and how creativity becomes accessible and joyful.
My latest obsession is large-scale giant flowers made from Italian crepe paper. I make them in my Ventana studio, teach others how to create them through workshops, and design custom blooms for events and commissions. At the heart of my practice is a desire to help people prove to themselves that they are creative, without measuring their work against anyone else’s. Whether I’m guiding first-time painters or building oversized flowers, my approach is grounded in warmth, encouragement, and the belief that making by hand connects us—to ourselves and to each other.
If you’d like to discuss a commissioned piece, imagine one of these flowers living in your home or event, or join a workshop and experience the process for yourself, I’d love to hear from you.
